Time for my Week 16 NFL predictions.
The NFC playoff picture is a mess. While the bubble should be cut down to one team after this week, every seed is still up for grabs. Like a toddler in a family photo, the NFC North is causing the most problems for the picture. The winner of that division could receive a first-round bye, and the runner-up will likely have to travel to the West Coast for the Wild Card Round. All the while, spoiled Green Bay will take third. The Packers could end up with an easy matchup against the NFC South winner.
Potential Playoff Preview
The Vikings are in Seattle this week, giving themselves a potential peek at their first-round matchup. While Minnesota is eyeing a first-round bye, a loss here would almost certainly guarantee a return trip in January.
This is a difficult spot for Kevin O’Connell. Even if the Vikings do win, they may still have to come back to Seattle, and they don’t want to show the Seahawks everything they have. However, both teams are in a spot where every game is a must-win.
Seattle has waffled this season, and uncharacteristically, they have been horrid at home, posting a record of 3-5. The Seahawks have no business being in the playoff hunt, but a lackluster division has kept them in the race. So while everyone is waiting for the Vikings to be exposed it likely won’t happen here.
Best Bet: Minnesota Vikings -3 (-105)
Trying to pass the NFC North for the number one seed is the Philadelphia Eagles, who have a breezy path ahead. The Eagles head to Washington this week to take on a squad that has fallen off since the beginning of the year. They then return home for Week 17 & 18 to play the Cowboys and the Giants. The Eagles are on a ten-game win streak, and it’s hard to see them picking up an L until February.
Best Best: Eagles to be the NFC #1 Seed (+145) (FD)
The shine has worn off on the Commanders, and the second half of the season has shown they can’t keep up with strong opponents; given that the Eagles have a bye in their sights, they’ll be running full throttle the remainder of the season.
