Central Florida will travel north to Morgantown to take on the Mountaineers this Saturday.
Mountaineers
West Virginia is led by Head Coach Neal Brown, who is in his 6th season and is 36-34 at the helm. This season has mirrored those numbers as the Mountaineers sit at 5-5 on the season.
They’ll be facing their third consecutive opponent who is off a bye, having split the last two. They had a seven-point win at Cincinnati and a 14-point loss at home to Baylor last week. In the win vs Cincy, WVU was outgained by 188 yards but capitalized on a plus-2 turnover margin.
Knights
UCF has had a disappointing season. Gus Malzahn is in his fourth year leading the Knights. The difficulties they’ve had this year have not gone unattended by Malzahn. Going into the Arizona game three weeks ago he made two significant changes. He let go of veteran defensive coordinator Ted Roof, and took himself off of play-calling duties. He handed them off to Offensive Coordinator Tim Harris, who is in his second stint at the position.
The Knights responded by hammering Arizona 56-12, out-gaining them by 341 yards. They lost last week at ASU, 35-31, but out-gained the Sun Devils by 146 yards. This UCF team seems to be responding to the coaching changes favorably. They’ll be coming off a bye to get a little extra prep and work in with the new play-callers.
The UCF vs West Virginia Best Bet
UCF is coming off the bye and their new signal callers are gaining traction. My ratings favor UCF here by more than the number, and we will back them at -3 on the road.
