Here is our free sports betting play of the day for 8/30/24.
The Game: Kennesaw State Owls vs UTSA Roadrunners (Saturday 8/31/24 at 3:30 est)
The Line: UTSA -24
Sports Betting Play of the Day for 8/30/24 Breakdown:
Kennesaw State: Moving Up in Class
Kennesaw is in their inaugural Division I FBS football season. UTSA is one of the top choices to win the AAC this year.
Kennesaw should be outgunned here early and often as history shows us that the jump up to FBS FROM FCS is a big one.
UTSA: Top Shelf, Creme de la Creme
The Roadrunners are certainly in the top echelon of the AAC. They have a veteran offensive line (5 of 6 returning starters) and are an experienced team up the middle on defense.
UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor has done a great job here, compiling a 39-14 record. They do have a big game on deck next week against Texas State, which may have Group of 5 playoff implications. Instead of a look ahead spot for UTSA, I see this as a tune-up Coach Traylor will want to go smoothly.
I look for UTSA to jump out early and stay there, building momentum for a critical matchup next week. Take UTSA and lay the 24 points via Caesars in Virginia.
BONUS PLAY
The game: Iowa State vs Iowa -2.5
NOTE: This play is for Saturday, 9/7 at 3:30 est
Rivalry Game
It’s the 71st contest for the Cy-Hawk Trophy, a rivalry that began in 1894! This year’s game will be contested in Iowa City, home of the Hawkeyes.
We are going to keep things simple here. Iowa has the better defense, a new QB in Cade McNamara as well as a new Offensive Coordinator. The Hawkeyes have a slight edge at Head Coach, a definite edge in special teams and they get the home field here. McNamara is a transfer from Michigan with good numbers from the Big 10. New OC Tim Lester should set this offense off in a new direction from the bog fest we saw last year.
Iowa special teams have entrenched themselves near the top of the national rankings. The special team’s edge is big here as it will not shock anyone if this game comes down to a field goal to decide it. The unit has ranked top-15 in the country each of the last six years under LeVar Woods’ tutelage. Their kicker, Drew Stevens hit 16 of 18 FG’s with a long of 54 and was perfect on his PATs.
This should be a fantastic football game, but I feel Iowa has a slight edge in this one. They’ll be in the friendly confines of Kinnick Field, where you can always watch the “Kinnick Wave”.
I can’t help but think this game closes at 3. Currently, DraftKings offers us Iowa -2.5, and I am seeing a -3 out there from Caesars. Let’s grab this game early and keep it off a key number.
Take Iowa -2.5.
The Plays: UTSA -24 (8/31) and Iowa -2.5 (9/7)
