Pitching
When it comes to sports betting, I want to back a good pitcher. A’s right-hander, Osvaldo Bido is not a good pitcher. He’s extremely hittable and his pitch arsenal is mid.
I believe his recent success is a combination of getting lucky and not facing very good lineups. Once Osvaldo starts facing some better lineups the variance will catch up to him.
The Mariners counter with Logan Gilbert. The M’s right-hander is just filthy. He enters this game with a .90 whip. Gilbert is the definition of an ace. Over 64 at bats against Gilbert, the Oakland A’s are only hitting .141.
Offense
Offensively, the numbers say Oakland has the advantage. This may be true but I think it’s closer than many may think.
Seattle still has some decent sticks, with J.P. Crawford, Julio Rodriguez and Cal Raleigh, who’s having a career year.
Oakland counters with a trio of outfielders. Brent Rooker, J.J. Bleday and Lawrence Butler are formidable. Oakland probably has a better lineup, but it will be negated by Logan Gilbert.
Bullpens
On paper they seem similar but to me the loss of Lucas Erceg was huge. He’s moved on to K.C. and has been lights out. Bullpens are probably a wash.
Normally in this situation I would play a 1st 5, but in this case Seattle is the better overall team.
I would rather bet the better team to help eliminate some of the variance. But the 1st 5 for the Mariners is -135. I’m betting with the full game -1 at -109.
