Sports Betting Play of the Day Breakdown:
Tonight in Anaheim, the Blue Jays are the clear side to bet in this matchup. While it may appear on the surface that the Angels have the starting pitching advantage, I don’t believe that to be the case.
Sometimes we have to look beyond the numbers. On paper, Tyler Anderson appears to be a good pitcher, but he doesn’t pass the eye test for me. Anderson is very hittable and gives up a lot of hard contact.
The Angels starter is due for a major regression as most of his starts this year have been against bad lineups which has led to his smoke and mirror type numbers.
I don’t feel like Jose Berrios is much better. His home/road splits are cause for concern. ERA is an outdated stat but you can still use it as a barometer and the barometer shows that Berrios has a 2.83 in Toronto and 5.29 ERA away from home. He’s on the road tonight.
I normally would factor this in but the Angels offense won’t be able to make him pay it. What it comes down to is the starting pitching matchup is a wash, and both bullpens are bad as well.
This matchup really comes down to the bats and while I don’t love Toronto’s lineup, Spencer Horowitz and Vlad Guerrero have been possessed at the plate and Blue Jays have the clear advantage over the light hitting Angels.
