Monday Night Football Sports Betting Play – Atlanta Falcons @ Philadelphia Eagles

The Line: Eagles -5.5

The Total: 45.5

After a Week 2 filled with upsets, the Atlanta Falcons will look to be the latest underdog to continue the trend on Monday Night Football. They face a tough task coming in against the high-powered Philadelphia Eagles, who looked strong in their Week 1 win over the Green Bay Packers. Let’s take a look at tonight’s game to find a winning NFL sports betting play.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons were the darlings of the fantasy community when they added quarterback Kirk Cousins in the offseason. Kirk Cousins has always been the epitome of a fantasy player. He puts up huge statistics yet it is tough to count on him to get the big win when needed. Cousins is accurate with the ball and makes quick reads in the pocket.

His addition to the Atlanta Falcons offense was hoped to be the savior that this franchise was looking for. However, we have to wonder if there was some skepticism about their newfound free agent’s health when they went ahead and drafted quarterback Michael Penix with the 8th overall pick rather than adding to the team around Cousins.

Those questions about Cousins’ health resurfaced in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers where Cousins looked slow, immobile, and unable to run play action.

New offensive coordinator Zach Robinson showed flaws of his own in Week 1. When the Falcons were in shotgun, they threw the ball over 90% of the time. When the Falcons were in a pistol formation, they ran the ball over 90% of the time. This made it obvious to the Steelers what the play call would be and led to the Falcons offense being completely disrupted. We hope that the Falcons will disguise their play-calling a bit more tonight.

Originally I was pegging the Falcons for a bounce back but with Cousins’ limited mobility, you have to wonder if he is capable of playing quarterback right now.

The Atlanta Falcons are going to need to protect Cousins if they’re going to be able to have a turnaround and get better results tonight.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are a true contender in the NFC. Their addition of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio was lauded as Fangio has turned most of the units he has worked with into top defenses. Philadelphia has the talent for Vic Fangio to make this work.

The Eagles added to their already impressive offense with the addition of dynamic running back Saquon Barkley in the offseason. That addition already looked genius in Week 1 where Barkley scored three touchdowns. Expect another heavy dose of Barkley tonight.

Philadelphia will be missing wide receiver AJ Brown tonight. That makes newcomer WR Jahon Dotson’s role much more important. We have to wonder how good Dotson will be since the Washington Commanders were willing to trade him within the division. However, this is an excellent opportunity for the talented Dotson to finally make his mark on an NFL field.

The Pick

Although this week was rife with underdogs covering the spread and winning outright, I do believe tonight is the night where we can play the favorite.

I can’t trust the Atlanta Falcons yet with the way that Cousins looked in Week 1. On the opposite end, Jalen Hurts is looking spry and mobile, and there is less pressure for him to get things done with his legs.

The addition of Saquon Barkley will look huge tonight as once again the Eagles will use a steady dose of the run game to keep their opponents off balance. The defense should have a field day with the immobile Cousins.

Vic Fangio will be able to dial up different blitzes to confuse Cousins and the offense. I don’t expect an exciting, close game tonight, the Eagles win in a blowout.
