Breakdown:
Giants are in the middle of a playoff chase and the Nats right now are in cruise control just awaiting the end of the season to arrive. The Nationals lost a significant part of their offense in deadline deals losing Jesse Winker and Lane Thomas.
While Washington starting pitcher D.J. Hertz is an up and coming prospect; his pitch arsenal doesn’t play that way. D.J. should be a fine number three or four start on this team for years to come. Giants starter Kyle Harrison on the other hand is probably a number two or three type pitcher moving forward, and his stuff plays.
I believe the real advantage in this matchup is in the batter’s box. San Francisco will put out the much better lineup out in the match up, including Heliot Ramos, Tyler Fitzgerald, Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler, Mike Yastremski, Michael Conforto, and Lamonte Wade Jr. These are players that have all hit well at some point in their careers and I believe that will continue today against a venerable Hertz.
