Sports Betting Play of the Day Breakdown for Volunteers vs Sooners SEC Conference Game
SEC newcomer Oklahoma faces their first conference test of the year when the Sooners host the Tennessee Volunteers in Norman. Oklahoma will be playing their fourth consecutive home game of the season. They opened with Temple, Houston, and Tulane. In those three contests they outgained their opponent by +181, +69 and +70 yards respectively.
They also benefited by a +6 turnover margin in their 51-3 trouncing of the Temple Owls. They were +1 in turnovers in a tight win over Houston, the highest rated of the three opponents by my ratings. Also, Oklahoma was +1 in turnover margin in a 15-point win over Tulane.
So the turnover variable has been their friend thus far, but they haven’t dominated in the yardage game as noted above.
Vols Smashing The Opposition
Tennessee, on the other hand, has beaten their first three opponents by a combined score of 191-1. The Vols outgained Chattanooga, Kent State and NC State by a resounding 1,426 yards.
Now, before you say it, Chattanooga and Kent State are not good programs at all, but the Vols did what good teams do and dropped the hammer early and often.
NCST is a solidly coached team, and they were crushed by the Vols. While Tennessee’s rating right now is nowhere near where it will be at season’s end, (it’s literally off the charts) they are out to make a statement. And what better way to do that than vs storied Oklahoma in Norman.
Final Thoughts
The Josh Heupel factor of course is in play. The Tennessee Head Coach was a star performer for the Sooners at QB and a member of their coaching staff for 10 years.
I do not doubt that the Volunteers’ practices have been ramped up this week. Furthermore, Tennessee has the more athletic team, and while Venables is a great defensive mind, the Sooners have two new co-Defensive Coordinator’s. It may take a moment to get their feet under them with a potent offense across the line.
