NHL Predictions: Panthers vs Hurricanes

There have been heavy ebbs and flows to this NHL season. This is a league that typically demonstrates consistency throughout a season, however, things have been shaky this year, which makes NHL predictions a bit tricky. Take the Winnipeg Jets. They started off hot, 15-1 through their first sixteen games. Now they’ve played .500 hockey since then and are 27-11-1. On the flip side is the Florida Panthers. The reigning champs started 12-9-1, now they are 23-13-2.

We’re almost halfway through the season, so teams should settle in, giving bettors a better idea of what they’re made of. It’s still too early to make any future bets, but it does make handicapping games easier. At this point in the season, bettors should be able to build up a healthy bankroll by the All-Star Break. At that point, we should know who is in it for the long haul.

Hurricanes in Florida

Two teams that seem to be trading places are the Carolina Hurricanes and the aforementioned Panthers. Carolina fell off right around the time the Panthers found their stride. The Hurricanes started the season 14-4. Now they have lost 9 of their last 15. After losing a shootout in Columbus on New Year’s Eve, they had a day in Miami to regroup for this matchup.

These teams have identical records — 23-13-2 — and since the Panthers have not been dominant at home, they are only a slight favorite. Given recent play, and the Hurricanes losing record on the road, there is so much value on the home side. A better number may come in-game, but FanDuel offers a number strong enough to bet pre-flop.

FD: Florida Panthers (-113)

Nobody takes more shots per game than the Hurricanes. That has been their M.O. since Rod Brind’Amour took over as head coach. Sergei Bobrovsky has his work cut out for him, but regardless of how many he lets in, Carolina will give him more than enough chances to hit this number.
