MLB Play of the Day: Detroit Tigers @ Houston Astros

MLB Playoffs Free Play of the Day Breakdown
It’s October, the MLB playoffs are back and we have a really good matchup in Houston today. The Astros host the red-hot Tigers. Tarik Skubal faces off against Framber Valdez in game 1 of this AL Wild Card series.
Skubal’s Playoff Debut
It’s never a bad idea to back the man who’s arguably the best pitcher in baseball. That man is Tarik Skubal. The Tigers left-hander has electric stuff and as a result, I expect him to be untouchable in his first postseason start.
Skubal has a 30.3% K rate and 4.6% walk rate. The man will win his first Cy Young Award in the offseason.
However, my only concern today would be the Tigers’ ace getting too hyped and losing the strike zone.
The Yordan Question
It’s an advantage that Houston’s two best hitters are lefties in Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker. Furthermore, Yordan might not even make the Wild Card roster. He’s battling a sprained right knee and as of this writing, his status has not been announced.
I don’t love Detroit’s offense, nevertheless, our worst-case scenario would be Detroit not pushing across a run. But at the very least, we can still get a push if Skubal goes 3 shutout innings.
Backing the Tigers
I will take the variance out of first five innings as well as the full-game moneyline and target the first three innings.
