One might think Missouri traveling to Amhurst, MA to battle UMass on the second Saturday in October to be anything but “article worthy”. I disagree. This is a pivotal game for a Tiger program that has invested heavily in NIL.
They’ve committed to dominate the St. Louis and Kansas City recruiting markets.
MIZZOU
Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz went .500 in each of his first three years in Columbia (5-5,6-6, 6-6). He broke out in 2023, leading Mizzou to a 10-2 regular season going 6-2 in the toughest conference in the game.
A soft schedule had them pinning their ears back and setting their sights on the inaugural 12-team NCAA Football Playoff. They came out of the gates on fire, dominating lesser competition Murray State and Buffalo. They then took on mid-level competition, lazily beating BC and then escaping a home overtime game vs Vanderbilt.
This left them heading into the bye week 4-0 with extra time to prepare for Texas A&M. Well…the train came to a screeching halt when they were dismantled by the Aggies 41-10.
That is why this game is so pivotal. They should return to early form and dominate this UMass team, entering the game stinging from the loss in College Station.
Word from invested alumni and NIL contributors is that the locker room is on the edge of being heavily divided. The players are not thrilled with the current NIL distribution. These players were on the same all-star teams in high school and have a certain pecking order. When one player finds out another is making more, there is unrest.
The Side
That is where Mizzou finds itself currently. I’m betting on this to be a get-well game for Drink and his boys. I bought the opener at Bookmaker at 26.5 and the line has since moved to 27.5, which I have no issue with.
