The Tampa Bay Lightning are on a back-to-back in Canada as part of their four-game road trip. Last night they were served an L in Toronto. Tonight they’re in Montreal to take on one of the hottest teams in hockey, the Canadiens.
The Habs
As expected, the Canadiens had a lackluster start to the season. Opening things up with an 11-19 record. However, something changed for this club in December and they have now won 12 of their last 15. Vegas has not given this team the respect they deserve. As a result, we’ve made quite a few units on this Montreal squad.
The Canadiens embarrassed the Lightning in Tampa last month 5-2. however, with Andrei Vasilevskiy in net tonight instead of Jonas Johansson, this will be a much different game. Vasilevskiy has been working hard this season. He’s remained one of the top goalies in the league despite the recent regression from his defense. On the season, Vasilevskiy is averaging 27 saves per game, but he’s had several games over the past month where he’s had to stop 40+.
The Bolts
On the other side of the ice will be Sam Montembeault. His inconsistent play has kept this team from rising to the top of the league. One start he’ll allow five goals on 20 shots, then his next start he’ll hold Dallas to one goal on 36 shots. Montreal would not have the record they do if it was not for this electric offense.
This should be an entertaining game, but given the recent play of both of these teams, the underdog should pull out yet another win.
