For my NFL portion of this column, I was going to continue to pile on the Jets. Let’s face it, you can read pretty much every other column I wrote this year to see that. Instead, we’ll commend the Colts for deciding to move on from Anthony Richardson and to put Joe Flacco in the lineup.
In the struggling AFC South, the Colts can potentially make the playoffs with a good quarterback. Joe Flacco provides them with just that.
I have upgraded the Colts in my rankings. I don’t think the books have adjusted enough to how much better this team will be with Flacco under center. Keep that in mind going forward for the NFL.
My Favorite Bet for Week 9
I can’t believe the Indianapolis Colts are catching 5.5 points against the Minnesota Vikings. Joe Flacco is a huge upgrade and I don’t think the books are accounting for how much better this team is on offense. Also, I don’t think the books have made the necessary adjustment to how much injured left tackle Christian Darrisaw meant to the Vikings.
In this case, we have two major roster moves that the books have not properly accounted for. The best value on the board is to take the Indianapolis Colts +5.5 on Sunday night.

The NBA is in Full Swing
We are a week into the season so let’s make some bold predictions overreacting to what we have just seen. After 1 week we can easily tell what will happen the rest of the season right?
The East
Boston Celtics are head and shoulders above the rest of the league. The Celtics are firing on all cylinders already and are the clear favorite to repeat as champions. With the terrible trades and bad coaching hire that the Milwaukee Bucks made, unfortunately, they’re no longer a threat to unseat the Celtics in the East.
The Knicks may have something, however, we need to see them come together to know if they are a threat. As of right now I don’t see that, yet it is a long season and the Knicks do have an impressive array of defensive specialists.
If the Philadelphia 76ers were to stay healthy they would represent the best threat to Boston. But remember, this is the 76ers, there’s no way they stay healthy.
The Indiana Pacers can’t play enough defense to be a threat.
The Orlando Magic are an exciting young team but are probably a year away from challenging the Celtics, maybe two.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been impressive so far this season, maybe they can threaten the Celtics.
Western Conference
There seem to be three teams that stand out above everyone else so far.
The Los Angeles Lakers seem to have found the right coach in JJ Reddick. Anthony Davis is playing the best basketball we’ve seen out of him since 2020. If this continues, the Lakers can definitely come out of the West.
The Dallas Mavericks seem to have improved after making the NBA Finals last season. Because of the way that they were dismantled in the Finals, I think that we discount the Mavericks as potential champions. However, we will see if this team can continue to improve.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have played the best basketball in the West so far this season and right now are my favorites to come out of the West. Chet Holmgren has continued to improve and the addition of Alex Caruso has made this defense elite. I would not be surprised to see a Thunder vs Celtics final.
There you have it. We saw one week of basketball and we figured it all out. Obviously, this is being facetious but it’s fun for the NBA to be back and for us to be able to make money night in and night out betting the sport.
