After an extremely disappointing season last year, the AFC East is bolstered and ready for the most exciting division race in football this year. While divisions like the NFC North and AFC West hold potential, the AFC East has them beat by a long shot. Three teams from the division are genuine Super Bowl hopefuls. Let’s break it down with our AFC East futures betting guide:
AFC East Powerhouse With Super Bowl Aspirations
We begin with the team that has won four consecutive division titles, the Buffalo Bills. The Bills have been playing Super Bowl or bust football for four years now, and have yet to claim a Conference Championship. While the roster is turning over and many people think their window is closing, the window is never closed when you have a guy like Josh Allen under center.
Josh Allen is entering his seventh season, and at 28 years old, his best years are still ahead of him. Losing Stefon Diggs is tough for this offense, but drafting Keon Coleman may have neutralized that situation.
Coleman offers my favorite future this season, with 30:1 odds. We’ve seen more receivers than quarterbacks win Offensive Rookie of the Year in recent memory, and with Marvin Harrison Jr. having Kyler Murry throwing to him, he’s an extremely overrated option. Smart money will be on Coleman.
Consistency matters, and while it wouldn’t be a surprise to see any of these teams take this division, it’s wise to go with the team that has been showing up week after week for half a decade now.
The Plays:
AFC East Winner: Buffalo Bills (+165)
Buffalo Bills Over 10.5 Wins (+122)
Offensive Rookie of the Year: Keon Coleman (+3000)
New York Jets: High Expectations and Big Challenges
The team with the largest expectations is the New York Jets. Robert Saleh has had a season to implement his system and learn the ins and outs of being a head coach. So with Arron Rodgers making his return, the spotlight will be bright in New Jersey this season.
While it would make a feel-good story for the Jets to climb out of the basement of disgust in the American Football Conference, people shouldn’t believe it until they see it.
There is just something about four-letter teams from New York. No matter how much money they spend, or how much hype the media makes about them, something always goes wrong.
While everyone hopes Rodgers makes it more than four snaps this season, it’s easy to imagine a season where Rodgers is a candidate for MVP on a team with a sub-.500 record.
The Plays
New York Jets: Under 9.5 Wins (+132)
New York Jets to Miss the Playoffs (+140)
Miami Dolphins: Aiming for Consistency
Heading south to South Beach, the Miami Dolphins look to overcome the collapse they had at the end of last season. For those who don’t remember, the Phins started the season 9-3 and finished the regular season 11-6 losing the tiebreaker to the Bills for the division. Their year was closed out by the Chiefs in one of the coldest games in NFL history.
This year, Mike McDaniel and company will look to put that behind them and bring Miami their first playoff win since 2000. There are concerns about this team, specifically their defense after losing mastermind Vic Fangio along with key personnel. No one within the organization seems concerned as the culture improved with his departure.
Miami has a tough season ahead of them given the talent within the division. Despite this, McDaniel and Tua have shown consistent improvement over the past couple of seasons. Bettors should expect that to continue.
The lines are very tight on the Dolphins this season, so while no team futures stands out, Tyreek Hill is always a good direction for money-makers to look.
The Plays:
Tyreek Hill to have 200+ receiving yards in any Regular Season Game (+275)
Tua Tagovailoa to Record 30+ Regular Season Passing Touchdowns (+290)
New England Patriots: Drake and Bake
Finally, the juggernaut everyone is glad to see dead, the New England Patriots. This team will have a completely new look, and like parachute pants, it’s a look that should never see the light of day.
The Patriots let go of one of the greatest coaches of all time and brought in a rookie quarterback from Carolina. UNC is a school with a deep history of sending underwhelming players to the NFL and any chance Drake Maye had of becoming a viable option in the league were dismissed with the release of Bill Belichick.
While anything can happen, especially in New England with a quarterback people don’t think much of, this sequel will be more like Dark Fate than Dark Knight.
The Play
New England Patriots: Under 4.5 Wins (+122)
Futures Betting recap:
