New Orleans Saints vs Green Bay Packers

We have one team that is a legitimate Super Bowl contender facing another team whose season is already over in this week’s edition of Monday Night Football. The Green Bay Packers are heavy favorites hosting the New Orleans Saints. Read on for my Saints vs Packers Prediction

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are 5-9 on the season although they feel like a much worse team. This team has been beset by injuries and are missing their top skill players on offense. This offseason they’ll be looking for a new coach and a new quarterback. Now, the Saints are essentially playing out their schedule.

The Saints will be starting Spencer Rattler at quarterback this week; although he looks like his ceiling as an NFL player is a competent backup. There’s not much to be excited for Saints fans to watch with Rattler on the field, and they’ll be definitely looking to make a change at this position next season.

The Saints have lost their two top wide receivers to injuries and are missing their starting running back Alvin Kamara. This will be a chance for backup running back Kendre Miller to shine, but overall there’s not much to be excited about on this Saints offense.

Green Bay Packers

With the Lions being beset by injuries, the Green Bay looks to be rounding into form at the right time. The Packers have one of the best coaches in the league in Matt LaFleur. His teams have a 23-5 record in December or later. The Packers get better as the season progresses, and know how to use their home field to be a true advantage.

Green Bay will have that advantage tonight on a cold night in Green Bay. We can expect a heavy dose of running back Josh Jacobs as the Packers will look to get an easy win and get off the field healthy. I wouldn’t expect a lot of razzle-dazzle from the Packers offense tonight. This should be a fairly workmanlike game plan, that emphasizes running the ball, getting the lead, and ending the game.

Prediction

I like the under in this game. Green Bay’s defense continues to improve while the Saints have absolutely nothing on offense. On the flip side, I don’t think they’ll be much incentive for the Packers to run up the score. After they get a 2 score lead, I would expect a heavy dose of the running game and for quarterback Jordan Love to let the play clock run before finally snapping the ball.

The Saints are 19-6 to the under outdoors and are 13-2 to the under in their last 15 games outdoors. I expect a low-scoring matchup. The Packers should cruise and what should be a relatively uneventful game. Take the under.
