Thanksgiving is here already? This NFL season has just flown by! Wow. Anyways it’s been a fun season so far but I have plenty of hot takes to give out before I give you an expert NFL prediction.
The Eagles Made me a Believer
Earlier this season I thought this might be the year the Eagles finally came back to Earth. Instead, it has been the San Francisco 49ers who have fallen out of Super Bowl contention.
The Philadelphia Eagles look to me to be the most balanced team in the NFC. Both the Lions and the Eagles dominate at the line of scrimmage and have excellent skill players. The difference to me when these teams inevitably match up will be the rushing ability of Jalen Hurts.
Hurts ability to run for first downs on 3rd down could be the difference in this matchup. How many times have you seen Eagles opponents play perfect coverage and Hurts just tucked it and ran to pick up a big first down. With these teams looking to be similar, and in some ways close to equal, Jalen Hurts could be the factor that pushes the Eagles to the Super Bowl.
The Detroit Lions are the rightful favorites to win the NFC right now but I think the Eagles are going to be the team representing the NFC. This team is improving every week and barring major injury I would not be surprised to see them in the Super Bowl once again.
This Week in Sports Betting: AFC Playoff Picture
All this year I have just been assuming the Chiefs will make the Super Bowl again, but as the season has progressed, I feel this might be the year that some of their vulnerabilities are finally exposed. The Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens both look like serious contenders to finally knock the Chiefs from their throne.
The Chiefs squeaked out another close win against Carolina last Sunday. There are two ways to look at this. The ability to win close games and consistently play in close games will have the team ready for a playoff situation that will most likely come down to the 4th quarter. The second way to look at it is this team it’s not as good as it once was and its inability to dominate weaker teams shows some of the flaws of this team.
I’m not sure how to take their recent level of play. No matter the opponent, it just feels like the Chiefs win by one score. They will have an opportunity to make a statement on Friday against the Raiders but I won’t be surprised to see the Raiders cover the spread in a game in which they never have a chance to win. How we view the Chiefs consistently winning close games as either a positive or a negative probably is the determining factor on whether or not we want to bet the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. Before I always thought it was a positive, however recent events have made me reconsider that stance.
NBA Thoughts
Maybe it’s just me and my local area of the world, but it feels like interest in the NBA is down more than ever. The only people I ever hear talking about the sport are gamblers. In my workplace, which consists of casual sports fans, all anyone is talking about is the NFL. The Sacramento Kings, who is my local team, have an exciting team. However, nobody seems to care at all. When I went to a Kings game last Saturday, the arena wasn’t even close to being full.
I wonder how low NBA attendance will get before the league realizes they’re having a popularity problem? The league will continue to make money in spite of declining ratings. These TV networks are falling all over themselves to give the league billions of dollars. But at a certain point, empty arenas are going to become a factor. While the TV money is secure, I wonder how far NBA attendance will decline in the next 5 years. The league owners have their heads in the sand and are not realizing that this regular season product is not something that the casual sports fan is interested in.
My Favorite Bet of the Week
Once again, the Pittsburgh Steelers were disappointed as a favorite last week. Now is the time we get to back them in our favorite spot. We’re taking the Steelers and Mike Tomlin as an underdog! Everybody expects the Cincinnati Bengals to flip the switch and become a Super Bowl team once again. Yet at a certain point, it’s time to accept this is not going to happen. Mike Tomlin and his team will make that fact known when they cover the spread against the Bengals this week. Tomlin is a dog? Sign me up. Take the Pittsburgh Steelers + 3.
Best Bet: Pittsburgh Steelers +3 (-115)
