THIS WEEK IN SPORTS BETTING 10/2/24

this week in sports betting 10/2/24

Another exciting week in the world of football means we have plenty to discuss here in my favorite column. It was another successful week for the Nuke the House shows and we continue to have a great radar when it comes to finding the right plays. And stick around for my best bet in the Cowboys @ Steelers. Here’s all my thoughts for this week in sports betting.

This Week in Sports Betting: College Football is on Fire

I was bummed that my beloved Pac-12 was disbanded. But the matchups created in these new super leagues have been fantastic. Every week, the schedule brings us plenty of exciting games, and this weekend was no different.

Games like Michigan vs USC and Oklahoma vs Auburn are fantastic, however, the most exciting game of the weekend was Alabama’s 41-34 win over Georgia.

And although he managed to lead a comeback, this was a blow to Georgia quarterback Carson Beck’s resume. He’s still in the mix to be the number one overall pick.

Of course, there’s plenty of season left for him to bounce back and make his case, but it was a disappointing performance overall. On the flip side, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe moved up the board.

While I don’t know if Milroe is a top prospect yet, he’ll get a shot at the pro level.

It seems to this writer that Shedeur Sanders might be the best quarterback prospect in this class. Only time will tell, but Sanders’ ability to make reads in the pocket and look good with a weak offensive line make me believe he will be a perfect fit for the NFL.

Are the Commanders For Real?

Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has taken the NFL world by storm. Washington Commanders fans have to be excited for the first time in a long time. The team finally has a competent ownership group and seems to have made the right choice with the number two overall selection in this year’s draft. Once you have found your quarterback, everything else falls in line.

However, I’m still concerned about this team overall for this season. Many are penciling in the Commanders to win the NFC East and I still have concerns about this offensive line and this porous secondary. The Commanders have plenty of needs to address. As exciting as winning the division would be, all that matters is that they continue to draft well and improve the offensive line and the defense.

This week in sports betting, I’m excited about the Commanders yet I’m still concerned about their ability to keep this going for the full season.

Davante Adams on the Trade Block

As a Raiders fan, this is one of the most disappointing things that I’ve seen in a while. You guys know that I was all in on Antonio Pierce. I was hoping he was going to become another version of Mike Tomlin or Mike Vrabel. However, Pierce liked an Instagram post saying that Davante Adams has already played his last snap as a Raider. It seems completely immature and not what I’m looking for in my tough-guy coach.

Being forced to trade Adams is another sign of organizational failure. They failed to understand what their window was when they traded for a veteran wide receiver. Now they are unable to make him fit into the culture.

This is a failure on multiple levels. Team building to start, but the most important is the execution of a plan. Pierce needs to get off his damn phone and start coaching football, watching film, and drop the social media garbage. I want a tough guy coach. I don’t want my coach scrolling Insta!!

The Bills Come Back to Earth

The Baltimore Ravens looked to be in trouble when they fell to 0-2 and struggled in Dallas. After easily dispatching the Cowboys, the Ravens were even more impressive in their Sunday night win over the Bills. This shows that we do have some parity in the AFC. It still seems like the Kansas City Chiefs are on top. But the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills are two strong teams that can both upset the Chiefs.

Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals are lurking in the shadows wondering if they can get things together. And the Houston Texans still have room to improve with their young team. This is shaping up to be an exciting battle in the AFC, with worthy contenders to the Chiefs’ throne.

This Week in Sports Betting: My Favorite Play of Week 5

Although I fell short of backing this team last week, I’m going right back to the well. I’m betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers over the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday. The Steelers did come up short against the Indianapolis Colts, but we saw many promising results from their offense in that game. There were concerns about the Steelers falling behind and Justin Fields looked good bringing his team back from the deficit. Fields was effective through the air, which is a dimension this team is going to need if they’re going to be a true playoff contender.

And as much as I love backing the Steelers, this is also a fade of the Dallas Cowboys, who should be without their best defender Micah Parsons. Parsons made that defense look so much better with his ability to do everything well. The Steelers offense will be able to attack this depleted Dallas defensive unit. Also the Steelers still have the best defense in the league.

The Cowboys are 9-10 ATS in their last 19 road games. The Steelers are 7-4-1 ATS in their last 12 games against the NFC. The Steelers are also 3-1 ATS in their last four prime-time games. We’re going back to the well with what I still feel is one of the most undervalued teams in the NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This Week in Sports Betting Best Bet: Steelers -2.5 (-110)
