The NFL is back! Thursday Night Football rings in the new season, sports betting is booming. Today we have a free play of the day for you to celebrate the opener.
Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs’ quest for a three-peat opens with the Baltimore Ravens at Arrowhead Stadium. Winning tonight will be a tall order, as they’re up against the toughest opponent in the AFC.
The Ravens have been a serious title contender for several years now. After losing to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game last season, they hope they’ve made the right adjustments this off-season to reach the pinnacle.
Ravens Running
Baltimore’s most notable offseason move was signing Derrick Henry. The future Hall of Fame running back adds a crazy layer to this already strong offense. It’ll be fun to see what kind of option plays John Harbaugh draws up now that he has Henry AND Lamar Jackson.
The Chiefs’ run defense was one of their only weaknesses they had last season. Since they didn’t make any roster moves to remedy that problem, it’s an aspect sports bettors can expect Harbaugh to exploit on Thursday Night Football.
The Play: Derrick Henry Over 65.5 Rushing Yards (-110)
Smash the Under
This will be a tight game as the Ravens will try to establish themselves as the team to beat in the AFC. I believe that defense will dominate. Both sides should be able to cut down any explosive plays. Bank on this one to be low-scoring. It will not be the electric shoot-out everyone wants to see.
The total opened up at 46.5 and it very likely could hit 48.5 by kickoff. While it sits at 47 on Thursday morning, under bettors would be smart to wait as long as possible before placing this bet to catch the best number.
The Play: Under 47.5 (-110)
Chiefs + The Total
Kansas City has never been great at covering spreads. It would be unwise to lay points in a coin-flip game. It seems unlikely the Chiefs will open the season with an L for the second year in a row, but given the challenge Baltimore presents, buying points for Kansas City in parlay is the best option here. Teasing through 0 is not something I do often, but I’ll buy the points in a same game parlay here.
